When you’re counting every penny, treating yourself to a new dress seems like a dream, especially at Christmas. But dreams can come true as 50Sense has found a way to get a gorgeous party frock for £10 – and you’re helping charity, too, thanks to Little Black Dress.
The online clothing store is offering 1,000 new mums and women in need the chance to treat themselves to a beautiful dress worth up to £150 for just a tenner.
Best of all – and the reason why I think this is fantastic – £5 of your £10 goes to Refuge, which helps parents and children fleeing domestic violence in the UK. You’re just paying postage!
The campaign is being led by Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon, who said: “The no-strings-attached offer is to give women a much-needed boost at a time when they often put others first. We’ll also send £5 for each dress despatched to Refuge, which is a fabulous charity that helps those most vulnerable in our society.”
She’s not wrong. Many years ago, I used to go to a women’s group in a deprived part of Newcastle and I saw the help and strength Refuge gave to women and children in need. I was young at the time, but I can remember the feeling of solidarity it gave these women from knowing there was shelter available and that they weren’t alone.
Added to that, Little Black Dress’s dresses are beautiful. I had one last year and it just made me feel so swishy and feminine – perfect for Christmas. I love the lacy Caroline because I am a sucker for a LBD, but I am also taken by the pretty florals of Hailey (I love me a halter-neck) and my current love of yellow has me looking again at the Holly (good job I’m not a woman in need – I couldn’t choose). They also work for all sizes and all ages – after all, not every new mum is in her 20s.
