Hello and welcome to 50Sense!
50Sense started as a little blog for my family and friends – but mainly me – as I approached 50. But then I realised that there was nothing out there for women like me: women who don’t mind getting old and have a wide range of interests.
And so 50Sense is my website for all women like me who have reached their 40s – or more – and can’t find a voice that reflects them.
If you’re want to read about the subjects that matter to you, from family to food, style to sunspots, the menopause to Me Too, and from a voice your age, this is for you.
Forget that “invisible woman” nonsense, 50Sense is about celebrating who we are and the life we live.
As for me, my name is Elizabeth and I’m a journalist from Newcastle-upon-Tyne now working in London after living in Edinburgh, Madrid and Toronto. (It gets confusing as to where “Home” is! Oh, and if you want to read about my time in Madrid and Toronto, just click on each of them.)
I’m married with no children – although I did have two cats who were the apples of my eye – and I’m starting life over again in Canterbury. It’s not always easy and 50Sense will reflect that. But it’s always about trying to live life to the full.
I’ve worked at the Sunday Herald, TheWeek.co.uk, the Edinburgh Evening News and The Scotsman, where I was appointed its first female night editor. I also wrote a monthly column and regular travel pieces for Spain magazine and have had my byline in such diverse publications as Good Housekeeping, The Guardian, The Week Junior and several other publications in both the UK and Spain.
At the moment, I split working at Hello! magazine with freelancing. You can find examples of my work tagged: “Portfolio pieces.”
Leave me a comment under anything you like – or don’t. Either way, I’d love to hear from you.
